All charges against Empire actor, Jussie Smollett has been dropped today March 26th.
Jussie who was accused of fabricating a racist and homophobic hate crime according to his attorneys is now a clean man.
The 36-year-old television actor had at first denied all 16 felony counts against him, including masterminding a false attack on the streets of downtown Chicago to gain publicity and win a bigger paycheck.
“Today, all criminal charges against Jussie Smollett were dropped and his record has been wiped clean,” Tina Glandian and Patricia Brown Holmes said in a joint statement.
“He was a victim who was vilified and made to appear as a perpetrator as a result of false and inappropriate remarks made to the public causing an inappropriate rush to judgement,” the attorneys said.
Smollett was charged with an offence of sending himself a threatening letter and getting two acquaintances to stage a street attack, and while staging the street attack they were invoking Donald Trump’s “Make America Great Again” slogan with homophobic and racial slurs.
The case, however was trending everywhere and invoked widespread sympathy for Jussie Smollett and outrage over the attack.
But Jussie in the last two episodes of the popular Fox Network television program, “Empire” was written out amid uproar over the accusations against him.
The producers of the program however didn’t say anything as they had no comment about the latest developments.
