The Council of Ulamas, a group of Islamic scholars in Kano State has kicked against the plan by the state to serve castration as punishment for rape.
A member of the state house of assembly, Mr Nuraddeen Lahassan, had proposed castration for rapists in the state.
This has now been contested by the chairman of the Council of Ulamas, Sheik Ibrahim Khalil, who urged the state to look into the Sharia law for the punishment prescribed for rape instead of castration.
According to the council, rape is among the major sins in Islam and it comes with its own punishment which is not castration.
The sheik revealed that the council will visit the Kano State House of Assembly to make their plight known.
