Samuel Ortom, Benue State Governor, has confirmed the attack on him by suspected militia herdsmen in his farm at Tyo-mu along the Makurdi – Gboko road in the wee hours of today.
The Governor said he was doing an inspection on his farm when the militia herders attacked him and his security men, opening fire on them.
He revealed that it took the rapid response of his security men to repel the attack while he ran to safety.
Ortom cried out that the attack came shortly after the Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore meeting, where he was described as a thorn in their flesh..
He stated that his life is in God’s hand, and no herdsmen or Fulani militia can terminate it without God’s permission.
Ortom stressed that the ranching law in his state stands, and no intimidation can make him change undo his people’s decision against open grazing.
He added that he would write a petition against Miyetti Allah Kauti Hore to the President and security chiefs, stating that allowing them to walk freely is not in the best interest of the country.
