About 120 houses and 3,000 farmlands at Zugo town in Guri Local Government Area of Jigawa have been destroyed by flood triggered by incessant rainfall.
Confirming the incident, the Information Officer in the area, Alhaji Sanusi Doro, told newsmen that it occurred in the late hours of Tuesday.
Also affected is Una-Zugobia road which was washed off thereby hindering free movement of people.
Sanni Duro called on the State Government and the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to provie food and relief materials needed by the victims of the flood.
A temporary measure has since been put in place by youths in the area who were mobilized to erect sandbags at the bank of the Guri River to prevent further damage.
He said “The local government responded quickly by mobilising over 150 youths who were given over 1,000 sacks to erect sand-bag embankment at the bank of the river.
“ This was necessary to prevent further damage as the people had already lost farm produce including maize, guinea corn, sesame and millet.”
