Update: Veteran highlife musician Fatai Rolling Dollars, passed on yesterday after battling with a deadly cancer disease.

Olagunju, one of the wives of the late icon, told NET that Fatai
Rolling Dollar had been diagnosed with Cancer while on tour in the US
sometime last year.
‘We confirmed it when he returned to
Lagos. He was a loving and caring husband. He not only saw me as a wife,
but also as his child. We had many plans together and I will miss him
greatly‘, Sherifat narrated amidst sobs.
Sherifat bore two children – a boy (6) and girl (3) for the late veteran musician.
So sad! Veteran highlife musician Fatai Rolling Dollars, is dead.
He died this morning at Marritol
Hospital, Sam Sonibare Street in Surulere after a brief illness. One
of his wives, Funmulayo Olagunju, confirmed his death.
Born 22nd July 1926, Rolling Dollar, composer of “won kere si number wa” was known for his verve and
dexterity on the guitar. His zest for life and energy, even in old age,
was also a marvel to all who beheld him perform. He got a new lease of life after years in the doldrums, through
Asiwaju Bola Tinubu who revived his career and fortunes, after the
Liaison de France was brought back into public consciousness. Fatai, who
was one of the highlife singers who made in the 60-early 70s, had a
lull in his fortunes before providence smiled on him.
He is survived by three wives, including a German and 16 children
Just last week, it was all over the news that he was admission on in a Lagos hospital, reports further claimed that he couldn’t walk again but he denied it…..May his soul rest in peace!
