Results of Konshisha flood

Farmers in Konshisha Local Government Area of Benue State are counting their losses after flood destroyed no fewer than 3,000 homes and farm produces worth billions of naira, in the area over the weekend.

KemiFilaniNews gathered that hundreds of families were displayed by the flood that affected 4 out of the 11 council wards of the local government.

Some farmers in the area who spoke to our correspondent said they have lost everything adding that they were also stranded during the flood that submerged their community as the wooden bridge along Korinya-Vandeikya road that serves as exist root from the area was completely submerged and destroyed by the flood.

“Nothing was spared. Our houses, home utilities, farmlands, crops and even stored produces in the storages were all destroyed by the flood,” one of them lamented.

Another victim of the flood disaster called on the government to come to their aid.

“The wooden bridge along Korinya-Vandeikya road that serves as the only access point to our community has collapsed due to the flood. We have been paying taxes to the local government on that bridge but the bridge was not repaired until it collapsed. I want to appeal to the relevant authorities to please come to our aid. We’ve been cut off from the world.

“Also, State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) should please assist us in order to get back on our feet again,” he appealed.

Efforts by our correspondent to get comment of the executive secretary State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) Dr. Emmanuel Shior, on the flood disaster in Konshisha proved abortive as his telephone lines were unreachable as at the time of filing this report.
