There was a momentary apprehension in the High-Level axis of Makurdi, the Benue State Capital, in the early hours of Wednesday, October 6, 2021, after an electric pole fell on a vehicle damaging the vehicle in the process.
KemiFilanNews gathered that the incident happened opposite Zenith Bank.
An eyewitness told our correspondent that the driver had parked the vehicle on the parking lane and alighted to get something at a nearby shop when the incident occurred.
The eyewitness who doesn’t want his name mentioned blamed the negligence of the Jos Electricity Distribution Company (JED) for the incident.
“If we were living in a Country the pole in question is the Property of PHCN or JED it would have been on them to pay through their insurance Policies but no only the reverse would be taken seriously. If the owner of this car had knocked down the pole he would have been made to pay before thinking of moving his car from the accident scene,” the eyewitness said.
The incident happened shortly after a heavy downpour that resulted to flooding in some parts of Makurdi.
Our correspondent gathered that home utilities and other valuables were flooded away in the Gyado Villa and Villa Suit areas of the town which are mostly inhabited by students of Benue State University, Makurdi.
Some residents were seen drying their mattresses and other properties in the sun.
Flooding has been a perennial issue in the State Capital which has resulted in the washing away of roads, streets, streetlight poles, electric poles and other public facilities.
