Gunshots have been fired by operatives of the Department for State Security, DSS, at peaceful protesters today in Abuja.
The protesters are demanding the release of Sahara Reporters publisher, Omoyele Sowore, whom the agency has failed to release despite him meeting his bail conditions.
Meanwhile, Deji Adeyanju, the convener of a coalition of civil society groups, has alleged that he was offered N1million not to stage a protest against the continued detention of Omoyele Sowore.
Adeyanju disclosed this at a protest going on at the DSS Headquarters at Aso Drive with operatives from the agency and soldiers observing.
Adeyanju said, “We were offered one million Naira at gunpoint with a promise for more for us not to hold this rally. Those who gave us this money know themselves, we also know those who gave us the money.
“We will not compromise, if those who gave us the money don’t come and collect it back today, we will give it to Femi Falana SAN to defray Sowore’s legal costs.”
