The South African government have denied reports of xenophobic attacks carried out by their countrymen.
This was made known during a meeting between the South African High Commissioner to Nigeria, Bobby Monroe, and Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama, in Abuja on Tuesday.
Speaking during the meeting, Bobby Monroe stated that the attacks were not ”xenophobic” in nature but mere ‘sporadic acts of violence’.
He added that South Africans are also affected by the ongoing violence which kick-started on September 2.
This is amidst videos and pictures circulating on social media showing properties belonging to foreigners mostly Nigerians getting burnt.
