Pensioners in Benue State have decried the gross neglection of pensioners in the state by the Governor Samuel Ortom-led administration.
The pensioners made known their grievances during the solidarity matches staged for Governor Ortom by some groups of women and youths in Makurdi, the State Capital, on Wednesday.
They called the attention of the Benue State Government to the over 30 months pension arrears the government is owing them.
“PENSIONERS!!!
We Are Not Dead People.
Benue State Government”, one of the placards of the protesting pensioners read.
Some of the elderly pensioners who spoke to our correspondent on anonymous conditions lamented that they are suffering and some of them who have health challenges can’t afford treatment due to Governor Ortom’s refusal to pay pensioners. They also said that some of their colleagues have died while waiting for their pension.
Meanwhile, KemiFilaniNews earlier reported that some major highways and streets in Makurdi, the Benue State Capital, were blocked in the early hours of Wednesday following series of solidarity matches for the Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom by some groups under the auspices of Concerned Benue Youths (CBY), and Concerned Benue Mothers (CBM).
The paraders were armed with placards that read, “Benue Youths Stand With Ortom”, “Ortom Keep Speaking For Nigeria”, “Ortom Benue Hero”, “Akume Is a Traitor”, and so on.
