Actress Lala Akindoju has joined the list of Nigerians criticizing the Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu over his meeting with out-of-school girls on Thursday.
Kemi Filani recalls that Sanwo-Olu had stopped his convoy for a brief talk with the girls who were on an errand for a bean cake vendor during school hours, at about 11.00 a.m.
The Governor was heartbroken to see the girls on the road during school hours, with buckets on their heads, stopped his convoy, inquired why they were not in school.
Amarachi Chinedu, 9, and Suwebat Husseini, 12, told him their parents couldn’t afford tuition fees. He found who their parents were and promised to take over the full responsibility of the girls’ upbringing and education.
An act that pissed many Netizens off.
Reacting to the viral video in a Twitter post on Friday, Lala condemned the governor’s approach.
She wrote: “I’m certain the media & strategy team of Gov Sanwoolu wants him to be made fun of & disliked more than he already is. Because what is this photoshoot with 2 random children hawking & not in school? There is an issue with child labour & education. Create systems to solve that!”
In another tweet, the mother of one wrote: “Lasting structures and systems to solve the issues around child labour, good free education and more is taking pride in this joke. The other day it was a salon and tonging comb he was struggling with. Very what? Very good.”
Lastly, the movie star wrote: “How do you think this makes him look good or intelligent dear sir. It didn’t even occur to you all to relieve the kids of the weight of the load on their heads- oh sorry- that will mean he really cares and won’t work well for the pictures. A governor that is meant to create.”
