Trey Songz Arrested for Felony Domestic Violence

Trey Songz has turned himself into the Los Angeles Police Department to face a felony domestic violence charge, TMZ reports. He was reportedly released on $50,000 bond. In February, Trey (whose real name is Tremaine Aldon Neverson) was accused of hitting a woman named Andrea Buera at a party in Los Angeles. A statement from Buera’s lawyer read, “He called her names, choked her and repeatedly punched her in the face. Several people were present and no one helped her,” according to the Los Angeles Times. The statement continued: “When she took out her phone to call an Uber to get out of there, he threw her phone off a cliff to prevent her from leaving. She took out a second phone and he threw that off the cliff as well.”

Weeks after the alleged incident, which Buera says occurred on Saturday, February 17, Buera held a press conference with her lawyer where she recounted the evening and said, “Trey, I’d like an apology. I want you to get help, and although I am not your first victim… I’d like to be your last,” the L.A. Times reports.

Trey Songz tweeted this morning, “I am being lied on and falsely accused for someone’s personal gain.” He added, “I won’t be speaking too much more on this but would like to thank you for all the prayers and support.” Previously, on February 21, Trey tweeted, “This too shall pass,” possibly in reference to the situation.

Pitchfork has contacted Trey Songz’s representatives for comment and more information.

Trey Songz has been involved in violent incidents in the past. In December 2016, Trey was charged with felony assault on a police officer and aggravated assault following a concert in Detroit. In August 2017, he reached a plea deal that reduced the charges to two misdemeanor counts of disturbing the peace; he also received 18 months of probation.

This past December, Trey was sued by a woman who claims that she attempted to take a photograph with him at a Philadelphia venue when, unprovoked, he “accosted her, smacked the phone out of her hand, hitting her in the face and breaking her glasses.” The suit also states that Trey has a “propensity toward violence and negative interaction with the public.” The alleged incident occurred on May 14, 2017. pitchfork
