Nollywood actor and comedian Charles Okocha took to Instagram to lament the demise of veteran actor John Okafor, who is popularly known as Mr Ibu. In his Instagram stories, he wrote the words ‘This one pain me’, in reaction to the news of Mr Ibu’s demise.
The cause of Mr Ibu’s death was recently revealed by AGN president Emeka Rollas, who mentioned that it was cardiac arrest that made Mr Ibu take his last breath.
It is not surprising that Charles Okocha is pained about Mr Ibu’s death because their line of work is similar as they both took comic roles. Also, it is possible that Mr Ibu was Charles Okocha’s mentor, since he started taking comic roles before him. Mr Ibu is considered a legend in thr movie industry, with comedy as his expertise.
The demise of Mr Ibu is a huge blow to the entirety of Nollywood because he was one of the faces of the Nigerian movie industry, with over fifty movies in his portfolio, and most of them were successful, even as far back as the late nineties.
Mr Ibu contributed a lot to the movie industry with his comic acting skills and ability to serve sarcastic remarks. His death is the second blow dealt to the movie industry, as not too long ago, Nollywood was mourning the death of Yoruba actor Sisi Quadir. It is indeed a hard time for Nollywood, but they seem to be taking it in stride.
