Netizens are reacting to the trending news of Super Eagles goalkeeper, Stanley Nwabali receiving a Chieftaincy title in his hometown.

On Sunday, the goalkeeper was honored with a Chieftaincy title, ‘Ugoh Egebema 1 of ONELGA’ in Egbema community, Rivers State. The goalkeeper was conferred with the title by the town’s paramount ruler. Photos making rounds online, showed the footballer accompanied by his wife to receive the huge title.

Reacting to it, many applauded the community was bestowing him with such a title as they noted how he deserved it, while others believed that the goalkeeper deserved more.

Stanley Nwabali bags Chieftaincy title

Nwabali won the hearts of Nigerians with his impressive display at the just concluded African Cup of Nations, where he was crowned Man of the Match. Though Nigerians didn’t win the Cup of Nations, Nwabali made the country proud with his exceptional skills.

The goalkeeper was days back, rewarded with N20 million by the Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, and was also bestowed with the honor of Distinguished Service Star of River State.

Nwabali was also honored with the Member of the Order of the Niger (M.O.N) by the President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Recall that Nigerian celebrities had shown their support to Nwabali after the Super Eagles’ defeat at AFCON.

Nwabali, via his Instagram page, expressed his disappointment and frustration at disappointing Nigerians.

Taking responsibility and accountability, he appreciated Nigerians for their whole support and apologized to them for letting the country down. Surprisingly, many celebrities flooded his Instagram page with encouraging words and support for him.
