Afrobeats singer, Seun Kuti has finally broken his silence after being released from police custody where he has been for over a week.
Kemi Filani reported that Seun Kuti was on Tuesday night released on bail from the State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti, Lagos.
This was confirmed by his attorney, Adeyinka Olumide-Fusika, SAN, in a telephone interview with Punch.
“Yes, Ṣeun Kuti was released minutes ago,” he said.
Following his release, the singer has taken to his Instagram page to pen an appreciation post to his wife, family, and lawyers.
He stated that he owes his freedom and sanity to them.
“I want to say a profound thanks to everyone who showed me all this love. All my friends that showed up! Thanks most especially to my beautiful wife”.
In another post, Seun Kuti expressed gratitude to his legal team.
“Last but not least. The Legal team. Uncle Femi Falana (SAN), Uncle Olumide Fisika (SAN), Uncle Kayode Adegoke (SAN), and Barrister Ogunlana. Ade Ademiluyi. And everyone on the team. I owe u my freedom and my Sanity. Let’s go!!”.
Seun Kuti speaks out after assaulting a policeman
Kemi Filani reported on May 13th that Seun Kuti trended on all social media platforms over a video of him physically assaulting a Nigerian police officer.
In the viral video, Seun Kuti could be seen confronting a policeman at Third Mainland Bridge.
Speaking out on his Instagram story, Seun Kuti alleged that the policeman wanted to kill him and his family.
The son of the late legendary singer, Fela Kuti stated that he has proof of it, but he isn’t one to chase clout.
He added that the policeman has apologized to him and he has agreed not to press charges.
“He tried to kill me and my family. I have the proof but I no dey chase clout. He has apologized and I have agreed not to press charges. Make una mind una business make the poor guy no lose his job”.
The Inspector General of Police, Usman Baba had ordered his arrest.
The IG had equally ordered a speedy and full investigation into the remote and immediate cause(s) of the alleged assault and the prosecution of the suspect accordingly.
“IG Baba assures Nigerians that acts of contempt/disdain for symbols of authority will not be tolerated while offenders of such hideous crimes will be surely brought to book.”
