President Muhammadu Buhari has approved $8.5 million for the evacuation of Nigerians stranded in Ukraine following Russia’s invasion of the country.
The Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Zubairu Dada, who disclosed this on Wednesday, said the approval was given at the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting presided by Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo.
Dada said AirPeace and Max Air airlines have been selected to provide three aircraft to facilitate the evacuation of Nigerians, including the about 5,000 students stranded in the warring Eastern Europe countries.
Recall that Russian President Vladimir Putin had on Thursday last week declared war on Ukraine, swiftly launching strikes all over the country to the condemnation of the international community.
