The Presidency through Bashir Ahmad, President Muhammadu Buhari’s aide on New Media, refuted reports making the rounds that the Government of the United States has placed the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Ibrahim Isa Pantami on terror watch-list.
The story went viral at the weekend that Pantami, who is also an Islamic cleric, had been placed on the list over alleged ties with Boko Haram Leader.
According to the report, the Minister was a close confidant of the late Mohammed Yusuf, the murdered leader of the dreaded terrorist organisation.
The report further claimed that the Communications Minister had ties with Abu Quatada al Falasimi and other Al-Qaeda leaders whom he revered and spoke highly of.
However, Bashir has described the report as ‘fake news,’ insisting that Pantami had never been on any US watchlist.
”You have just endorsed a fake report without verifying. For your information @DrIsaPantamihas never been on any US watchlist,” the presidential aide tweeted.
