Kunle Afolayan’s newly released movie, Anikulapo has been disqualified from the nomination list of the Academy Awards, better known as the Oscars.
Kemi Filani reports that despite the global reception that Kunle Afolayan’s Anikulapo has received since its release, the Academy Awards does not deem it worthy to make its nomination list.
The Academy Awards, better known as the Oscars, are awards for artistic and technical merit in the American and international film industry. The awards are regarded by many as the most prestigious, significant awards in the entertainment industry worldwide.
Expressing his disappointment on his Instagram page moments ago, Kunle Afolayan wrote “I am so pleased and delighted that the whole world has decided to tag ANIKULAPO film a masterpiece even though the Nigeria Oscar selection committee think its not worth submitting for the Oscars. Will keep doing my own thing”

Kemi FIlani recalls that it was a battle of Afrocentric fashion on September 25 as Toyin Abraham, Bimbo Ademoye, Sharon Ooja, Bisola Aiyeola, and Aisha Lawal stormed filmmaker Kunle Afolayan’s Anikulapo movie premiere in gorgeous outfits.
Anikulapo movie arrived on Netflix on September 30 and it features Kunle’s aunt Toyin Afolayan, Sola Sobowale, Adebayo Salami, Faithia Williams, Bimbo Ademoye, Kunle Remi Ronke Oshodi-Oke, Sunday Omobolanle, Taiwo Hassan, Dele Odule, Adewale Adeoye, Aisha Lawal, content creators Ikorodu Boiz, Macaroni and Hollywood star Hakeem Kae-Kazim.
Sharon turned up the heat for the premiere, she wore a stylish aso-oke crop top and skirt. Bisola rocked a dazzling black gown, while Aisha Lawal stormed the event in a mini gown.
Dressed as an Ifa priestess, Bimbo wore an all-white silver stoned dress with a white veil.
Others who attended the event include Sola Sobowale, Kunle Remi, Tunde Kelani, Adebayo Salami, Uzee Usman, Toyin Abraham, and her husband Kolawole Ajeyemi.
