Ooni of Ife celebrates first birthday of daughter with concubine (photos)
The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi has publicly celebrated the first birthday of a daughter he welcomed with one of his concubines.
Recall that in 2021, Queen Naomi Silekunola revealed that her husband, the monarch had other women in the palace.
The Ooni has just proven it to be true as he celebrated his daughter in style.
Taking to his Instagram page, he wrote,
“Princess Adebukunmi Adeife is 1 year old today. Almighty God will grant you a long life to fulfill your destiny in the world. You keep my memory well refreshed of my mother of blessed memory as you are truly her reincarnation. Lots of love Mama Adebuks”.
This would be the King’s third child as the Yoruba monarch has an older daughter from his teenage years and a son from his estranged queen, Naomi Silekunola.
Kemi Filani news recalls amidst reports of the Ooni of Ife having several new Queens in his palace, his recognized Queen, Prophetess Seyi Naomi has now confirmed that their marriage has crashed.
She made the revelation on her Instagram page in December, 2021 saying she will no longer be enslaved and will now be only addressed as her son’s mother and no longer the Ooni of Ife’s Queen.

Yoruba Obas don’t have concubines get that straight to your brain. He is entilted to marry as many as he wishes. As a matter of fact people of other kingdom dashes them wives and they must not say no. Tradionally all the Obas that has reigned before him and left widows in the palace are his wives too. So you better stop writing nonsense. If he chose Naomi as his queen that doesnt mean others in the palace are less Oloris

You may be right by one side anyway, but mind you, Yoruba obas are entitled to many wives, but those wives must be kept in the palace by all means,those wives in the palace are called wives, while those outside are called concubines, An Oba in Yoruba land shouldn’t throw out his wife out under any circumstances, is not in Yoruba oba culture to throw out his wife after one child as our the present Oni is doing, All eyes are on Ile Ife as the Cradle of Yoruba race, the culture must be jealously guarded and protected so as not ridicule Yoruba race.

Whether she’s from one of the Ooni’s wives or concubines is the same thing, it is polygamy and adultery and speaks of the subjugation of women by many cultures. I even read someone saying any wives left by the previous Ooni automatically belong to the incumbent: what a demeaning culture. Another reason why we’re so grateful God gave us Christ to deliver from sin and darkness. Give your life to Christ: he is the way, the truth and the life!

Any wife left by the previous Oba becomes the new Oba’s wife does not translate to intimacy please. The definition is…..the Palace Authority ensures that they are taken care of till death; they may not necessary remain within the palace and are free to remarry.

This society of ours have made people to be reading all sorts in the social media about Traditional Obas.There is more respect for tradition. Obas can have as many wives as they can and they are called Oloris.Please this social media thing should STOP.Even the Oloris go on social media to display themselves,which is totally on called for.Let us respect tradition.Olori Naomi should respect Oni and STOP all this childish social media thing.Have you ever seen Oba Benin,Awujale,Oba Gbadebo,Obi of Onisha and Oba of Lagos wives in social media.Pls people should stop disrespecting this Obas.People are watching from all over the world.Enough of all this nonsense and Oloris should respect the Palace.

It’s surprise that an article like this is coming from a”Kemi” which signifies that the writer has one or two to do with the Yoruba and their culture. But what do you expect when they relegate the language and culture for the foreign? It is wrong to ever refer to a wive of a Yoruba oba as “concubine” and in fact,as someone pointed out earlier in the comments, you’ve committed a sacrilege and ought to tender an apology. Your article and position seem to suggest that the child is a bastard. Another lesson: there’s no bastard in an Oba’s court. Be careful next time and know how and where you wish to grind your axes.
