Today makes it day 101 after the Lekki toll gate incident involving soldiers and #EndSARS protesters on October 20 in Lagos and Nigerian youths have taken to social media to lament.
Kemi Filani recalls that the Lagos State Government has repeatedly denied that protesters who were calling for an end to police brutality and bad governance were killed. The Federal Government said blank bullets were fired. Some reports have countered the claims.
While Nigerians await the report of the judicial panel set up to probe the incident in Lagos, some of them on social media have remembered those who were reportedly killed in the shooting.
One Nonso writes “Its been 100 days since we lost our brothers & sisters at the Lekki Toll Gate Massacre, whenever I pass it i remember that horrible night of pain, tears & death executed by the Army on Youths for Protesting against Police Brutality. Rest on Heroes”
One Elvis Osho tweets “Today we remember the innocent lives lost at the Lekki Toll Gate, 100days ago. We still don’t know who gave order, no one has been held accountable, Govt has continued to deny the event. May their souls continue to Rest In Peace. Amen. WE WILL NOT RELENT, WE WILL GET JUSTICE!!!”
One Akpan Clement writes “To our loved ones who have become a symbol of Great Courage… We’ll miss you all Lekki toll gate #Lekki100days #LekkiMassacre“
