Cesc Fabregas, a former Arsenal and Chelsea midfielder, has stated that he would want to see three of his Monaco teammates whom he helped develop end up at a club such as Liverpool or Bayern Munich.
The former Spanish international joined the French Ligue 1 team from Chelsea in a £10 million move in 2019. He is nearing the conclusion of his contract with the club and will leave after the season’s last game this weekend.
Fabregas only made five appearances for Monaco this season due to an injury, but he has been working behind the scenes to help Monaco’s next generation of talent rise through the ranks.
Fabregas spoke to RMC Sport on his time at a club that was in trouble when he arrived in 2019. At the time, his old Arsenal teammate Thierry Henry was in charge.
He said: “At the time, I signed with one objective: to save the team, then 19th with 13 points. I took a big risk because relegation was possible.”
Fabregas then discussed how Henry and the club’s former president, Vadim Vasilyev, urged him to assist in the development of the club’s young players.
He said: “When I came, Thierry and Vadim also asked me to help grow the young people. It was an important point. Today, I feel like I have won the respect and sympathy of this younger generation.”
“I hope I have helped. We like each other and I will continue to follow them, exchange with them. I would like to see (Youssouf) Fofana, (Sofiane) Diop (Aurelien) or Tchouameni at Bayern or Liverpool!”
Tchouameni has been linked with a transfer to Liverpool in recent weeks, with Jurgen Klopp apparently looking to bring in a young midfielder to freshen up his options in the centre of the park.
The 22-year-old has had a spectacular season and has already earned eight caps for France; he is thought to be being watched by numerous big teams across the continent.
The other two players highlighted by Fabregas, Fofana and Diop, are not as well-known as Tchouameni, but both are on their way to the top, with both guys making 41 appearances for Monaco this season.
