Nollywood actress Mide Martins has held a 20 years remembrance ceremony in honour of her late mum, Funmi Martins.
Sharing a video from the ceremony that was graced by some of her colleagues in the industry, Mide Martins eulogized her late mother, Funmi Martins and captioned the Instagram post thus:
“20 YEARS REMEMBRANCE!!! 20 YEARS LIKE YESTERDAY, IN THE LOVING MEMORY OF LATE FUNMI MARTINS. MAY YOUR BEAUTIFUL SOUL CONTINUE TO REST IN PEACE”.
“IYA MI OWON ANIKE OLUWAFUNMILAYO FLORENCE. REST ON ANIKE TILL WE MEET TO PART NO MORE. YOUR GOOD DEEDS WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN”
Kemi Filani recalls that some months ago, a veteran U.S. based actress, Ashabi Olorisha called out Mide Martins for abandoning her late mum’s graveyard.
“When I went to Nigeria, we did late Funmi Martins 19th Year Remembrance and I posted it on social media, a lot of people were complaining about the state of her grave. When I got there that day, I was moved to tears with the way things were that day but because I just finished shooting my movie and I had just 3 days more to spend in Nigeria before going back to the U.S and people know what it takes to travel to Nigeria. The experience is always much and demands from almost everywhere. If you are not careful, you will end up borrowing money to go back. So I couldn’t do anything but it was really painful to see her graveyard like that because I know one day, I will die too. Irrespective of what we have we will all die someday. So, I came back to the U.S. and worked so hard, the first week I got to the U.S, I sent money down to Nigeria for the place to be renovated. I couldn’t stand seeing her graveyard like that. I read all manner of comments on social media, where people complained about the state of her graveyard, that her so-called friends and family couldn’t do anything. And I said it has to be done.
Her poor son was crying and it was renovated. When it was shattered and scattered you saw it on social media, now that it is renovated you should also know.” Ashabi stated.
Defending herself in an Interview City People, Mide Martins said “Do you know how I celebrate my mum yearly? Don’t I have other pressing issues and responsibilities? I am a hustler…..Me, that I am managing myself?
I celebrate my mum yearly but I don’t make noise about it. I can even send this year’s remembrance video to your Whatsaap to prove I do it yearly without noise, because I know my responsibility and know what I need to do yearly to remember my mum, like prayers, giving alms, which I do, so because I don’t put it up on social media am a bad child.
I know people who I invite for prayers yearly for my late mum, and people I give alms for mum’s sake, so these people that are shouting, what do they do, at least I have videos to prove this. I want to see things they do for her.
Has anyone ever organised any prayer in her honour? If I am doing the right thing or wrong thing let them leave me to God to judge. It is only God that can judge us all.” she concluded.
