Why are women referred to as “husband snatchers” yet it is men who initiate contact?
Let’s take a cue from Maria Chike, a Cubana Chief priest, and her married boo, Kelvin, from Big Brother Naija.
Is a married man, for example, a commodity? Is he a plate of rice or an iPhone that has been’stolen’? Unlike the alleged’snatcher,’ the guy accepted a vow and swore an oath to be faithful and loyal to his wife.
This act of patriarchy upsets me tremendously.
It’s past time for married men with wandering manhood, not just their sugar babies, to be shamed.
These women are frequently the victims of deception and lying on the part of these men, who would lie just to get their pants down.
Furthermore, I cannot deny that some of these “Ogabnje” (Marine Spirit) girls approach these men despite their marital status.
However, polygamy is permitted in African (at least Nigerian) custom…. (Though I am not a fan.) Why do we frown on it when some of our forefathers and foremothers did?
Will polygamy reduce the incidence of “husband snatching”? Let us know what you think in the comments section.
