Nigerian singer, Iyanya has ascribed wave of the moment, Tems’ growing success to Wizkid.
This came after Tems historic win at the 2023 Grammy, where she became the first Nigerian female artiste to win a Grammy award for her collaboration with American rapper, Future and Drake.
Popular blog, Yabaleft had questioned if Wizkid played a huge role in helping Tems into stardom.
“Is it safe to say Wizkid is part of Tems’ success story?”.
Reacting, Iyanya affirmed that the award-winning singer helped Tems into stardom.
Recall that Tems shot into fame following her collaboration on Wizkid’s song, Essence.
Ever since Tems collaborated on ‘Essence’ with him, her star power has continued to increase.
The duo performed “Essence” together for the first time on stage in the United States in October 2021.
The two singers also linked up with American singer, Justin Bieber for Essence Remix.
The song, which Justin Beiber described as ‘song of the summer’, has achieved an outstanding feat, as it reached platinum status barely a month after it was certified gold in the US. According to the BRITS Certified Awards website, songs are awarded platinum status when they achieve 600,000 units of sales. The records are awarded the gold status for 400,000 units and silver for 200,000 units, but this would be based on Official Charts Company.
This isn’t the first time, many are attributing Tems success to Wizkid.
Tems features on Future’s new album
Recall that when Tems was unveiled as one of the featured artiste in American rapper, Future’s new album, many praised Wizkid for discovering Tems.
The American rapper had taken to his Instagram page to share a list of the artistes on his album and the list was quite impressive with Tems being the only African on it.
With American top singers like Drake, Kanye West, Young Thug, Kodak Black, and many more, Tems no doubt made us proud by being on this album.
Following the good news, Nigerians poured out accolades on her for lifting Nigerians up music-wise.
