‘It is better to be 55 and unmarried than staying in an enduring marriage’ – Toke Makinwa

Popular Nigerian TV personality, Toke Makinwa has clearly stated that she would rather stay unmarried than living in an enduring marriage.

The controversial presenter who doubles as an actress, via her Twitter handle further opioned that Nigerian men’s definition of a strong woman is long suffering, emotional abuse and a high tolerance of accepting bad behaviour.

She wrote, “Society encourages that sort of narrative, women are seen as strong by the amount of beating she’s has to endure till the man was ready to give her peace. When they meet the women who stand up for themselves? Society labels them as wayward and too opinionated. Who is Society again? They automatically think being alone at a certain age means you are miserable. Would you not rather be 55 and alone than enduring BS with someone? If that’s the definition of miserable, a beg which one will you rather be?”

Toke Makinwa added, “Nigerian men’s definition of a strong woman is long suffering, emotional abuse and a high tolerance of accepting bad behavior. You’ll hear them say “she turned the boy in me into a man”, that means her name is endurance, the woman has endured.”

Recall that Toke Makinwa had made a new shocking revelations about her life.

The multiple brand ambassador cum businesswoman revealed that she became an orphan at the early age of two.

Sharing her story via her verified Twitter platform, Toke Makinwa wrote: “29 years ago today I buried both parents, 8 years old, not fully understanding what was happening as I watched the two most important people in my life lowered in the ground. All I can say is 29 years after, Jireh, you are enough 🙏forever enough, always enough, more than enough.”

Makinwa’s post stirred reactions from her fans, while some sympathised with her, some others revealed that they could feel her pains more because they have encountered similar situation.
