Famous Nollywood actor, Yul Edochie, has said it is wrong to say Lagos is a no man’s land, as it is a Yoruba land and they have been accommodating.
The controversial filmmaker made this known on Saturday via his verified Instagram page, adding that it was a known fact that Igbos have also contributed to the Lagos State, likewise other tribes.
Hyping Lagos State Yul Edochie wrote: “I’ve lived in Lagos since 2011. Built my house in Lagos.
“Not once have I experienced any form of hate or rejection from the Yorubas.
“Anytime Yoruba boys see me on the street, they gather to greet me, and it’s all love always. And this talk flying around that Lagos is a no man’s land is wrong.
“Lagos is a Yoruba state in Yoruba land. Imagine someone saying that Anambra is a no man land, That’s crap. Anambra is an Igbo land. You can’t come into someone’s land and tell the person its now a no man land na you dey find trouble.
“Nobody can deny the fact that the Igbos have contributed immensely to the development of Lagos. Other tribes have contributed in their own ways too. And the Yoruba’s have been largely accommodating as well. It shouldn’t take away the fact that Lagos is a Yoruba land. We no dey drag ownership. Let’s kill tribalism before it kills us,” he wrote.
Yul Edochie, had earlier ruffled feathers in the online community following trailer of a new film production he featured in.
The movie star had shared a trailer of a new Nollywood production centred around the life of Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, Peter Obi.
Yul played the role of Obi in the movie and surprisingly, he altered his deep voice to mimic that of the presidential candidate.
Some of the scenes in the newly released movie also captured Edochie dressing just like the former Anambra governor and making references to some of his real-life situations.
Taking to Edochie’s comment section, Nigerians expressed strong reservations against the newly released movie.
Some of the reactions culled below:
Obidiya wrote: “Casting with Peter Obi name is ok but that voice is not his please. Edit bfr u release it. Don’t disrespect our President like u did to May. T for thanks.”
Hardaezeh wrote: Na everything una go use act film
Warldbest wrote : “But Peter obi marry one wife.”
Ezeceey wrote: “What type of voice act is this? You should have used your normal voice on this we will still understand. This looks more like mockery.”
icey_kingblaise: “Nice one.. But the voice wasn’t necessary.. You can pass your message without mimicking.. BTW, that’s not even Peter Obi’s voice! He has a nice and meek voice. This looks like mockery to me #RESPECTFULLY❤️“
stephanieobienu: “This is not funny at all, he is the president of Nigeria ,why didn’t you use burial name and act movie ,everything is not joke.”
