How circumstances almost ruined my convocation – Obi Cubana recounts bittersweet experience

convocation - Obi Cubana

Nigerian businessman and socialite, Obinna Iyiegbu better known as Obi Cubana has recounted how circumstances almost ruined his convocation at UNN.

The Cubana Group founder narrated his experience while traveling for his convocation at University of Nigeria, Nsukka in 2009.

Obi Cubana recounted how he and his friends were traveling to their University from Abuja to Nsukka to attend their convocation and decided to enter a different night bus because of its affordability and cheapness.

The vehicle they boarded was one which doesn’t provide maximum comfort nor attachment.

None of them dared to sleep because they knew they could get on the wrong side of traders who bought full seats.

Obi Cubana travelled along with his most precious and priceless shoe which his uncle got for him after flying high in his academics and making a 2.1 in his department.

Unfortunately, he lost a pair of the shoe and it almost ruined his convocation but God saw him through.

He shared the experience to motivate people to keep striving harder and to believe in hope when there his life.

Cubana questioned if Nigerians still traveled on night buses.

“2009, we were going to University of Nigeria Nsukka for our convocation ceremony from Abuja, in company of some of my friends and classmates; Nze, Ultimate, Onwa, Ogali, etc!!
We entered bus from Area 1 Garki Abuja to Dumez, near Suleja so we could enter cheaper “night bus” instead of boarding from Jabu Park!
We got tickets for Mercedes Benz 1414 commuter vehicle, attachment!
My uncle, Zubby, bought me a pair of “Schooles” shoes, having made him proud by making a 2:1 in Political Science department!
Inside the 1414 Benz bus there was ZERO comfort, especially attachment!
U dared not sleep cos if u happened to rest your head on shoulder of a trader that had “full seat”…. na slap or punch, depending on mindset!!
We managed to get to Obollo Afor in the morning, where we would now take a bus to Nsukka.
Getting to where we contributed money to stay for the entire convocation, I realised I lost one leg of the pair of my adored and priceless “schooles”shoes
It almost ruined my convocation!!!!
But today, here we are!!!
