It’s no news that popular Nigerian cross dresser and acclaimed drag queen, Idris Okuneye, better known as Bobrisky, is a fearless and bold person.
For years now, the Yoruba born socialite, who has been tagged as a social misfit has made the rounds online and stayed relevant.
With over 4 million combined followers on all his social media platform, the power of his influence can never be overemphasized.
However, he paid a huge price and took a brunt of the disgrace, bullets, insults and curses from Nigerians while he struggled to be known. From getting arrested during his early days, to spending nights at the police cell during his struggle days. Kemi FIlani News recalls how a top government official, Otunba Segun Runsewe, frustrated his life by shutting down his party and threatening to deal with him.
The Lagos state command later revealed why they shut down the party. The spokesperson of the police in Lagos, Bala Elkana, said ”Yes we sealed off the venue of Bobrisky’s birthday party today based on some credible information.” Mr.Bala who confirmed the incident during a telephone interview with PREMIUM TIMES on Saturday declined to reveal more information about the operation. He however said additional information would be made public in due time. About 50 policemen stormed the venue of Bobrisky’s birthday party which was said to have been attended by some celebrities as well as cross-dressers and homosexuals. The highly-publicised soiree had already kicked off at ‘The Pearl Gardens’, Wole Olateju Crescent, Off Admiralty Way, Lekki Phase 1, when the police stormed the premises and sealed it off.
Bobrisky is arguably one of the most insulted Nigerian celebrities on social media. Despite these “challenges”, He has continued to thrive and inspire other fast rising cross dressers in Nigeria like James Brown, Jay Boogie, Goldtiful, Deevah, Ajeboh, Michelle Page and many others.
While some people think it’s okay to allow these men dress however they want, despite the ‘same-sex’ act in Nigeria, many others believe that overlooking them will further corrupt other children causing serious damage to our cultural heritage.
Bobrisky recently shared photos of his alleged surgically enhanced body. Showing off his curves and butt, typically as a woman should. This move attracted quite a handful of reactions from Nigerians and other crossdressers. It’s obvious that his goal is to get more engagement in order to keep his brand afloat further increasing his income as a social media influencer, however, he got some not-so-good comments from his likes.
Jay Boogie took to his Instagram page and wrote, “He said it’s “Better to be with a sexy lady like me with the real body than struggle with an old cargo whose engine is shrinked but might still seem fine” he flatters me a lot and I love it”
Goldtiful took to his Instagram page to share the image below, insinuating that Bobrisky lives a fake lifestyle;
Is it safe to term these reactions “clout chasing” or them speaking their truth? Does Bobrisky deserve to be trolled by up and coming crossdressers considering the fact that he paved the way for them?
