Nigerian Media personality Daddy Freeze has reacted to the recent court declaration of all marriage by the Ikoyi registry as illegal and invalid.
On Monday, a Federal High Court sitting in Lagos declared it unconstitutional for the federal government to conduct marriages, declaring all solemnisation of unions at the Ikoyi marriage registry, Lagos, as illegal and invalid.
The court presided over by Justice D. E. Osiagor held that only the local government marriage registries were empowered to do such by the provisions of the 1999 Constitution (as amended).
He consequently ordered the closure of all federal marriage registries opened by the ministry, including the Ikoyi marriage registry, with immediate effect.
Reacting to this, Daddy Freeze, in a post shared on his Instagram page, opined that the issue is making his life complicated little wonder his first marriage did not work out.
Daddy Freeze, whose first marriage with Benedicta Elechi had crashed, added that the new development means he was never married and not a divorcee.
He wrote: This Ikoyi registry wahala is making my life very complicated. Since all the marriages conducted there are invalid, that means I was never married in the first place. Since I was never married, does that mean I’m not a divorcee.
No wonder my first marriage didn’t work. It was null and void from the get go. If this report had come out sooner, I won’t even have needed a divorce, na every body go your way for end am.
