Nigerian singer Adekunle Gold and his wife Simi have reacted after a federal high court declared the marriage certificate issued by the Ikoyi marriage registry as illegal.
Kemi Filani News earlier reported that on Monday, a Federal High Court sitting in Lagos declared it unconstitutional for the federal government to conduct marriages, declaring all solemnisation of unions at the Ikoyi marriage registry, Lagos, as illegal and invalid.
The court presided over by Justice D. E. Osiagor held that only the local government marriage registries were empowered to do such by the provisions of the 1999 Constitution (as amended).
He consequently ordered the closure of all federal marriage registries opened by the ministry, including the Ikoyi marriage registry, with immediate effect.
In a post shared on the microblogging platform Twitter, Simi opined that she and her husband have been fornicating while claiming they are legally married.
Responding, Adekunle Gold said he is more concerned about getting the refund of money paid.
Simi wrote: Nebor, @adekunleGold we have been fornicating?
Adekunle Gold replied: my own an make dem do refund.
