Nigerian music has evolved from one genre to another This was made possible by collaborations between home-based Nigerians with Nigerian parents and musicians with parents that are non-Nigerians.

1. Rae Lola

Rachel Funmilola Garton, also known as Lola Rae, is a Nigerian artist and musician. She previously gained recognition in the Nigerian music business following the release of her widely acclaimed hit, Watch My Ting Go.
Lola’s father is of British descent.

2. Di’ja

Di'ja

Hadiza Blell, best known by her stage name Di’Ja, is a singer, visual artist, fashion designer, and composer from Sierra Leone. Mavin Records is her current label. Her first single, “Rock Steady,” was released in 2009 and was nominated for Best Urban/R&B Single at the 2009 Canadian Radio Music Awards. Furthermore, she was named Best New Artist at the 2008 Beat Music Awards.

Di’Ja has resided in several countries, including Nigeria, Sierra Leone, the United States, and Canada. Her father is from Sierra Leone, while her mother is from Northern Nigeria. Di’Ja began her academic career at a young age, earning a double degree in Biology and Psychology. Di’Ja grew interested in music, art, and philosophy after receiving the aforementioned degrees.

Her father is originally from Sierra Leone.

3. Nico Mbarga Ruler

Prince Nico Mbarga was born on January 1, 1950, to a Cameroonian father and a Nigerian mother in Ebonyi State, Nigeria. He was raised in Ikom, Cross River State.

Ruler Nico Mbarga was a highlife performer from Nigeria. He is best known for his 1976 song, Sweet Mother.

Mbarga’s father is of Cameroonian descent.

4. Wata Swirl

Wata Swirl

Swirl Wata is a Nigerian artist. He is most known for his song Senorita.
His father is Jamaican.

5. Tems

Tems

Temilade Openiyi, better known by her stage name Tems, is a Nigerian singer and songwriter.

Tems is a Nigerian alt-R&B singer, songwriter, and record producer who recently collaborated with America’s Khalid and Davido on a single.
Tems began her musical career at 11 when she joined her church’s choir. On the other hand, her music teacher first recognised her and later learned to play the piano.

Tems is known for her widely acclaimed mixtapes, Try Me and Damages, and is one of the skilled young performers currently producing ripple effects in the Nigerian music scene.

Her father is from the United Kingdom.
