Depression is characterized by a poor mood and aversion to action, and it can impact a person’s thoughts, behaviour, feelings, and sense of well-being. People suffering from depression may feel like they are dying at times, which is why most people suffering from depression commit suicide.
- Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie
Chimamanda is a Nigerian writer. She is 43 years old. Chimamanda Adichie also revealed how she suffered from depression, but the writer overcame depression after she began counselling.
- Nike Oshinowo
Nike is a Nigerian entrepreneur, she is currently 55 years old. Nike confessed that she had had a medical condition called endometriosis since she was 13. Endometriosis is a condition in which the womb’s lining is located elsewhere in the body. She said, “Living with endometriosis is a challenge. She also said living with endometriosis has affected all aspects of her life, so she began to drink alcohol. She said the pain of endometriosis is very traumatic. But thanks to God, she is now out of depression.
- Tonto Dikeh
Tonto Dikeh is a very popular and beautiful Nollywood actress. She is currently 35 years old. According to an online publication, she claimed she battled depression some years back. She, however, went for counselling, and she overcame the depression. She said that due to her past experience, she now has a foundation which helps people battle against depression.
- Morenike Alausa
Morenike Alausa, popular as “Mama Ereko”, is a very popular Nollywood actress. She claimed she became depressed when her son returned to Nigeria from London for no good reason. She said it was a spiritual attack and wanted to commit suicide, but she didn’t and is now out of depression.
- Halima Abubakar
Halima Abubakar is an actress. She is currently 35 years old. She also suffered from depression. She claimed she went into depression after breaking up with her boyfriend. She thought she was sick and was treated for typhoid by her doctor. She later became hospitalized because her condition was not improving, and she was later said to be suffering from depression. She was well taken care of and she’s fine now.
Depression is REAL, though symptoms may vary. Please let’s take things easy and be very vigilant, a problem shared is half solved. Let’s share our problems with our close friends or family, so it won’t lead to depression.
