All you need to know about Wizkid’s journey and nominations in the Grammy Awards 2022.
Since its debut in 1959, the Grammys have attracted A-list artists and given rise to historic moments, from J Lo’s Google Images-inspiring Versace gown to Lady Gaga crooning “Shallow.” In recent years, however, the ceremony has faced growing criticism, not to mention a significant drop in viewership – with everyone from The Weeknd to Alicia Keys criticizing its selection method.

Wizkid Grammy 2021 victory
Wizkid and Burna Boy received their first Grammy nominations at the 2021 Awards. Wizkid won the Grammy for Best Music Video for his work with singer Beyonce and her daughter Blue Ivy on the song Brown Skin Girl.
Burna Boy, on the other hand, won the Best World Music category prize with his Twice As Tall album.
Wizkid’s 2022 Grammy Awards nomination is one of the singer’s notable feats of the year. Early this month, he won the Best African Act award at the 2021 MTV Europe Music Awards (MTV EMA).
He also recorded the global success of his Made in Lagos album, including the smash hit ‘Essence’ featuring Terms.
Wizkid Grammy Awards 2022: Missing out on two Nominations
Wizkid, the Nigerian superstar and Afropop sensation, did not receive any additional recognition from the Recording Academy this year after being snubbed during the winners’ announcement ceremony on April 3, 2022.
Wizkid was nominated for two awards: Best Global Music Performance (“Essence“) and Best Global Music Album (“Made In Lagos – Deluxe Edition”).
Wizkid and Tems’ “Essence” was defeated by “Mohabbat” by Arooj Aftab, a Brooklyn-based Pakistani vocalist, music composer, and producer.
It came as a great surprise, because many people expected “Essence” to be a clear favorite from the moment it was released in October 2020. However, expect the unexpected to occur at the Grammys.
