The Nigerian equity market ended the week on a high note, with the All-Share Index rising by 1.51% for the week ending December 9th, 2022. This comes after the 1.26% growth seen the week before.
This is in accordance with the data presented in the Nigerian Exchange Group’s weekly stock market report.
The benchmark index, ASI, gained 1.51% from the 48,154.65 points it had at the end of the previous week to close the week at 48,881.93 index points. The market capitalization also increased, ending the week at N26.625 trillion.
This brings the Nigerian stock market’s month-to-date performance to 2.56% and its year-to-date gain to 14.43%.
Equity market performance
The Exchange’s trading floor saw 15,317 transactions last week involving a total of 1.225 billion shares worth N15.243 billion. This is more than the 16,183 transactions for 839.978 million shares valued at N12.418 billion that took place the week prior.
Similar to the prior week, the Financial Services Industry led the activity chart in terms of share volume traded, with 514.067 million shares worth N5.104 billion traded in 6,489 deals, contributing 41.97% and 33.48%, respectively, to the total equity turnover volume and value.
The Conglomerates Industry came in third with a turnover of 69.017 million shares worth N86.431 million in 528 deals, while the Construction/Real Estate Industry came in second with 463.348 million shares worth N1.620 billion in 210 deals.
The top three stocks by volume, UPDC, FBNH, and TRANSCORP, saw trading of 765.230 million shares valued at N4.282 billion in 847 deals, making up 62.47% and 28.09%, respectively, of the total equity turnover volume and value.
Similar to that, 8 indexes rose in value, while 9 indexes finished lower, with the exception of the NGX ASeM Index and NGX Growth index, which showed no change.
