Steve relocated to New York City to pursue a career as an actor. He began his career as a voice-over artist for TV advertisements and then acted in a few films. His big break came when he auditioned for Blue’s Clues in 1995. He had no idea what he was auditioning for or whether he would pass before taking part in the audition. He beat over over 100 other candidates to get the post. He rose to prominence as the host of the show.

Steven Michael Burns was born on the 9th of October 1973, in Boyertown, Pennsylvania, the United States. He was raised by his mother Janet, and father Joseph. Burns has two older sisters namely Jennifer and Karen. After leaving the US Navy, his dad Joseph worked at Safeguard Business Systems where he was a human resources director. In 2015, Burns’s father was died due to cancer.
In 1992, Steve completed his high school graduation from Boyertown Area Senior High School. After that, he developed an interest in music and began playing in the bands Nine Pound Truck, Sudden Impact US, and the Ivys. His passion later turned into the acting field. To pursue a career in acting, Steve attended DeSales University to learn acting. However, he dropped out from there and moved to New York City to pursue an acting career.

In 1995, Steve Burns gave an audition for the action children’s television series Blue’s Clues. At this time he thought that it was a voice-over role. In the beginning, he was not able to impress the Nickelodeon executives, but after the 100 people completed their auditions he was finally selected.
After auditioning, Steve became the most real out of 100 people according to the Executive producer, and co-creator of Nickelodeon named Traci Paige Johnson. In 1996, Steve Burns started appearing in this hit children’s series and it became the turning point of his career. He appeared in the 100 episodes of the series Blue’s Clues and earned a lot of recognition throughout this time.
After hosting the famous children’s series for 6 years from 1996 to 2002, he announced his retirement as a host in the last episode of the series in 2002 and presented the audience with his replacement, actor Donovan Patton, as his brother, Joe. While appearing as a host, he also worked with the production of the series.
According to reports of Johnson, Steven never wanted to become a children’s host earlier, he stayed connected to the show for a long period. In the last episode of the show, he shaved his head before replacing by the new host, Donovan Patton.
