John Henry: Early Life & Biography

John Henry was born on 13th September 1949 in Quincy, Illinois. His real names are John William Henry II. His parents were farmers, which was their main source of income. They were soybean farmers. They did their farming business in different areas, which made them move from Illinois to Arkansas. Henry had an asthmatic condition, and when he was 15, they moved to Apple Valley in California.

He attended Victor Valley High School, located in Victorville. He later attended Victor Valley College, graduated from the University of California and did Philosophy.

John Henry is a family man and has been married three times in his entire life. He married his first wife while he was a bit younger and was still learning how to do business. He was staying in Norway when he met his wife, Mai Henry, and married her. The couple later divorced at an unknown time and had no child. He married his second wife, Peggy Sue Henry, in 1993 and had a daughter together, but they later divorced in 2008. He married his third wife, Linda Pizzuti, in 2009, and they had two kids: a daughter and a son.

Henry set up his company, John w. Henry & Company, after he had studied the market and saw that it was successful. He founded this company in 1981 and set up a small office, but after two years, it had grown and decided to look for a bigger space. He established his next office in 1989 in Boca Raton after he had moved to Westport, Connecticut.

Henry began his involvement in sports and purchased a minor league team of baseball. He went ahead to be among the founders of the Senior Professional Baseball Association. He also purchased Miami Heat and later New Jersey Nets. In 1999 he purchased Florida Marlins from Wayne Huizenga for $158 million but sold it in January 2002.

He purchased Boston Red Sox with Tom Werner and New York Times, where he was the principal owner and Werner, the chairman.  They improved the team by hiring qualified baseball players. In 2001 they established New England Sports Venture, which had 80% shares of the Boston Red Sox and later changed the name to Fenway Sports Group.

It is Fenway Sports Group that took over Liverpool F.C. in October 2010.  By then, the club was not performing well, and they improved it and began to win again. He has also founded iracing.com together with David Kaemmer.

Henry has won various awards in his sports career as the owner of various clubs. He has won the World Series Championship four times as the owner of the Boston Red Sox.
