Over the last few hours, Nigerians have taken to various platforms to react to the death of Dr Chike Akunyili who report revealed was murder by unknown assailants.
Reports disclosed that Dr Akunyili was shot dead on Tuesday evening alongside seven others at Nkpor in the Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State.
Since the news of his death, the political class especially have reacted to the sad incidents with the likes of Pres. Muhammadu Buhari calling on security agencies to bring the perpetrators to justice.
Nigeria’s secret service, the Department of State Services, also known as the DSS, in a recent statement, has debunked claims that its officers were responsible for the assassination of Dr Chike Akunyili.
The DSS made this known in a statement made public on Wednesday while reacting to a social media video claiming it carried out the act.
According to the DSS Public Relations Officer, Peter Afunanya, he described the claims made against the security outfit as spurious and illogical
For those who may not know, Dr Chike Akunyili was the widower of the late former minister of Information and director general of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control NAFDAC, Prof. Dora Akunyili.

Dr Chike Akunyili was famous as the husband to the late Prof. Dora Akunyili. There are no details of his date of birth, but he is believed to be in his early 60’s.

Chike Akunyili was reported to have finished with honours from the university where he studied medicine and surgery; he worked as a medical practitioner in Nigeria for more than 20 years.

Chike Akunyili was a doctor and a supportive husband as he gave financial support for his wife’s pharmacology studies. He was with the late Dora in India for an endometrial carcinoma treatment, a disease that tragically claimed her life in 2014.
Dr Chike Akunyili, until his death, managed the St Leo’s Hospital, which was reported to be among the largest in Enugu State.
