Ben Cameron Wallace was born in White Hall, Alabama, on 10 September 1974. He was born in a big family of eleven children where he was second from last. He was born to a single mother by the name of Mama Sadie, who he once said was the law in her house. Sadie passed away in 2003 after collapsing in a grocery store.

His love for basketball started at home, where his seven older brothers taught him to play since he was young. In high school he joined the basketball team as well as the football team, receiving all-state honours in both. He was discovered by Charles Oakley, a former NBA player.

He had his most productive time in his career with Detroit, Michigan, which he joined in 2000 after he was traded by the Orlando Magic. At the team, he improved as a defence, and he was placed second in the first season. He became even better the following season and even was named the NBA Defensive Player of the Year.

In the 2002-2003 seasons, he won the same award again, and he was selected to the All-Defensive team. During the season, his team won a total of 50 games. He helped Detroit Michigan reach the finals in the 2003-2004 seasons being the first time since 1990, and they won the championship.

The 2005-2006 seasons marked the end of his career at Detroit Michigan because, in 2006, he was signed by the Chicago Bulls. The contract worth $60 million was to last for four years. He also played for teams like Cleveland Cavaliers and also returned to Detroit, Michigan, retiring in 2013.
