The best Nigerian music and songs of 2021 so far (3rd quarter)
The Nigerian music received more global acceptance this year, with many new stars like Tems, Ayra Starr, Buju, Oxlade gaining international recognition alongside top stars like Davido, Wizkid and Burna Boy.
This is a sign that the Nigerian music industry has improved in terms of lyrical content as well as flow; we expect the number of Grammy Awards winners to increase massively in a year to become especially from the new generation of artists.

YBNL artiste, Fireboy DML continued with his impressive performance in 2021 as he dropped his first single of the year ‘Peru’, which has been well received by fans
Peru comes after he dropped his recent hit album “Apollo” in 2020 which contained 17 solid tracks with features from various talented artiste.
The song was produced by top Hit Maker, Shizzi.
2. Testimony by Buju
One of the raves of the moment who is signed to Spaceship records artiste, Buju dropped a potential hit song in Testimony in July.
Buju worked alongside creative record producer, Blaise Beatz in Testimony.
3. Rise up by 2Baba ft Falz
Veteran Nigerian singer, 2Baba has refused to slow down despite the name he has already made in the industry.
2Baba in the third quarter of 2021 dropped a new song featuring Falz tha Bahd Guy. The song was also produced by veteran producer, Cobhams Asuquo.
4. Bia by Phyno
This is our favourite indigenous song in the third quarter of 2021. Phyno who is the lead singer at Penthouse label, dropped off a brand new song titled BIA, and it has remained a jam since its release.
5. Understand by Omah Lay
One of the favourite songs on our list. Omah Lay has proven to be one of the best Afro-fusion singer in Nigeria as he dropped his single titled Understand.
Understand was produced by Tempoe and will be a track on Omah Lay’s forthcoming debut studio album. The visual of the song was shot and directed by Top Shotta.
6. Question by Burna Boy featuring Don Jazzy
These two stars need no introduction as they have already made their impact in the industry. Question is, however, the first time Burna Boy and Don Jazzy would ever work together.
7. Somebody’s Son by Tiwa Savage ft Brandy
This is the favourite love song released in the 3rd quarter. We believe Tiwa Savage poured in all her thoughts into the music, and it came with some powerful message to those on the search for love. Tiwa Savage featured American singer, Brandy who blended so well with the flow.
8. Essence remix by Wizkid featuring Tems and Justin Bieber
Essence remix was one of the most popular songs released in the third quarter of this year. The addition of Canadian singer, Justin Beiber to the track made the song which is a track from Wizkdi’s Made In Lagos album gain more recognition.
9. Lie by Kizz Daniel
Flyboi Inc singer, Kizz Daniel blessed his fans and followers with another of his love song in Lie and we believe it is going to trend till the end of the year.
10. Bloody Samaritan by Ayra Starr
Upcoming youngster, Ayra Starr, is the rave of the moment especially with her latest song ‘Bloody Samaritan’ trending massively. The song is a track off her newly released album “19 & Dangerous”, a follow-up to her first EP “Ayra Starr.
