Norm Gene MacDonald was born on the 17th of October 1959 in Quebec City, Canada, to Fene and Percy Lloyd Macdonald, who were both teachers. His elder brother, Neil Macdonald, who is a journalist with CBC News and married Joyce Napier of CTV News. Norm has a younger brother named Leslie, but nothing much is known about him.

Education

Norm MacDonald went to Quebec High School and later moved to Gloucester High School in Ottawa.

Career

Norm MacDonald started his career by performing as a standup comedian at clubs in Ottawa and moved to other parts of the country as he began to gain confidence. He made it to the spotlight in 1987 after he was allowed to perform at the ‘Just For Laughs’ Comedy Festival.

It would later dawn on him that he needed a bigger platform to make it big in his career and as such, he moved to Los Angeles in the US to try his luck; it was there he got the work as a writer for the sitcom ‘Roseanne’.

MacDonald would go ahead to join NBC’s ‘Saturday Night Live’ (SNL) television program as a writer and a cast member in 1993. During his time there, he impersonated different celebrities like Larry King, David Letterman, and Burt Reynolds, and he was considered funny by the audience. He would, however, be fired at SNL in 1997.

He was known for his sarcastic comment about politics and celebrities. MacDonald also acted in a number of Hollywood movies like Dr Dolittle, Dirty Work, The Fairly Odd Parents, Farce of the Penguins, Christmas is Here Again, among others.

Personal life

Norm Macdonald married Connie Vaillancourt in 1988; their union was blessed with a son named Dylan, born in 1993; their marriage would, however, end after 11 years in April 1999.
