His full name is Iyanya Onoyom Mbuk, and he was born on the 31st of October 1986 at Palm Street, Cross River State, Nigeria, to Mr and Mrs Mbuk. His mother was a disciplinary and school headmistress while his father was a forester; unfortunately, he lost his parents and elder brother in 2008.
Despite the sad event, Iyanya didn’t allow it to weigh him down, and he continues to push for success.
Iyanya had his early education at Qubi Centre Nursery School Calabar and a government primary school for his primary education.
He then went to the government science school Calabar, where he had his Senior Secondary School Certificate (SSCE). The singer later gained admission to study Business Management at the University of Calabar (UNICAL).
He had been interested in singing as a child and was the children choirmaster in his church when he was only five years old.
After graduating, he took up a job as a bar manager. His love for music, however, remained intact as he would go to bars like Fiesta Fries Bar, Mirage Nite Club, and West-Life Night Club to sing.
After a while, he decided to go into professional music; this was after he had seen a television programme that showcased the luxurious lifestyle of the likes of 2Baba and Olu Maintain.
His moment of fame came when he won the first edition of the MTN Project Fame in 2008. He then released his debut album titled My Story in 2009. However, it didn’t gain attention because of what was described as a lack of proper distribution and promotion. His hit single was Kukere which was released in 2011.

Iyanya is not married, but he has been involved in numerous relationship scandals.
On September 1st 2021, the reports revealed that Governor Ben Ayade of Cross River State had appointed Iyanya as Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Tourism and Entertainment.
