Ifedayo Adetifa biography: All you need to know about NCDC DG
Following Ifedayo Adetifa’s appointment as new Director-General of Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) on Monday by President Muhammadu Buhari, Nigerians have been willing to know more about him.
One thing is for sure; he is super qualified to take up the role and responsibilities as the head of the NCDC, considering his experience and level qualifications.
The new appointment comes after Chikwe Ihekweazu, the outgoing NCDC was appointed as an assistant Director-General of the World Health Organisation (WHO) in charge of health emergency intelligence.
The NCDC was in the news throughout the whole of 2021 owing to the COVID-19 pandemic; the body was in charge of providing statistics as well as helping with setting up isolation centres throughout the federation.

Ifedayo Adetifa’s Biography
His full name is Ifedayo Morayo Adetifa, there are no details of his date of birth available on the internet yet, but he is believed to be in his early 50s. Ifedayo Adetifa grew up in Nigeria and bagged his first medical degree from the University of Ilorin, Kwara state. He then proceeded to the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, where he was trained in Paediatrics and Child Health.
Dr Ifedayo has an MSC and PhD in Epidemiology from the University of Amsterdam, The Netherlands. He became a member of the West Africa College of Physicians in Paediatrics in 2005.
Career
Dr Ifedayo Morayo Adetifa until his appointment as the new DG of the NCDC on Monday, was an Associate Professor of Infectious Diseases Epidemiology at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.
The new DG was awarded the MRC/DFID African Research Leader Fellowship in 2018. Ifedayo Adetifa was also a member of the Kenyan National Immunisation Coordinating Committee and a member of the World Health Organisation, Africa Region’s (WHO-AFRO) Regional Immunisation Technical Advisory Group.
Adetifa is also a member of the health sector reform committee headed by VP, Yemi Osinbajo.
Research interest
The new DG research area is in vaccine impact/effectiveness studies, innovative approaches/surveillance tools for monitoring vaccination, among others.
