Anthony Uchechukwu nicknamed King of Madness, an aspiring musician, has vowed to sue the Nigeria Police Force for N500 million for indiscriminate arrest and arbitrary imprisonment.
After being released by the Lagos State Police Command, the singer confirmed this in an interview with The Punch.
In mid-July, the performer was paraded as a criminal suspect at the command headquarters.
Uchechukwu described his arrest, saying that about 10.45 p.m., police officers stopped the Uber ride he had taken to a show in Lekki.
“It was not even up 11pm when the police stopped me. I am too classy and they can’t see me and not stop me but after all the search, they didn’t see any exhibit on me.”
“They now said the DPO wanted to see me that I have constituted (a) nuisance,” he said.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, had later said, “The King of Madness has been released; he was released after a proper background check on him. We discovered that he has a means of livelihood like many others.”
However, King of Madness said he would drag the police to court to pay damages for the humiliation.
“They want to send me to jail for an offence I didn’t commit”
“I felt really horrible for the first time in my life,” he added, adding that the police had failed to respect his “human rights.”
“They basically threw me in with a bunch of their criminals to make it look like they caught a bunch of them, which is a big lie. And I’m going to sue the cops for N500 million. “My identity does not define me; my hair does not define me; my tattoo does not define me; I am a Nigerian citizen who has received an education,” the artist remarked.
