For many Nigerians, Lauretta Onochie is the social media aide to President Muhammadu Buhari and has been in the news since she joined the present administration.

She is currently one of the individuals that hope to become a commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC.

There have been some issues bothering on her nomination as some people are of the opinion that she is a member of the ruling party, the All Progressive Congress APC, and as such, should not be made a commissioner of the electoral body.

Onochie, in a recent statement, however, stressed that she stopped being a member of the APC after the 2019 Election.

Lauretta Onichie’s Biography

She was born on the 9th of July, 1955. She is from Delta state; however, there is no information about her parent. She grew up in Calabar, where she spent 18 years.

Aside from being a Nigerian educator, Lauretta Onochie is a pastor.

While she had her primary and secondary school in Calabar, Cross River State, Lauretta went on to attend the University of Calabar, where she studied Elementary Education. She later attended the University of Benin for a degree in Business Education.

She also has a post-graduate degree in Post Compulsory Education and Training (PCET) from the University of Greenwich,  diploma in Humanitarian Response To Conflict And Disaster and The Health Effects Of Climate Change from Harvard University.


Lauretta served as a pastor after she graduated from a Bible college while in Calabar.

From 2005 to 2011, she was a lecturer at New City College, Epping Forest Campus in Loughton, England.

She later left there to become a consultant for AfricaFirst, and she held the post until she was appointed Personal Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari in 2016.

While there were speculations that she has been married five times, Lauretta Onochie has been married once to Mr Onochie. And they have children and grandchildren who all reside outside the country.

She has, at some point have heated exchanges with the likes of Wizkid and Bishop Oyedepo.
