Governor Nasir El-Rufai declares NLC President wanted

Comrade Ayuba Wabba had led workers in the state on a warning strike following the State Government recent sack of over 7,000 civil servants at the state and local governments.

Wabba was last seen publicly in Kaduna, where he led members of NLC on a protest against the policies of El-Rufai’s administration.

NLC had led members of affiliate unions on a protest that crippled economic activities in Kaduna.

In solidarity with the protest on Monday, aviation workers also shut down operations of Kaduna International Airport (KIA).

Other affiliate unions, including the National Union of Petroleum Employees of Nigeria (NUPENG), National Union of Electricity Employees of Nigeria (NUEE), National Union Of Textile, Tailoring and Garment Workers of Nigeria, are also in the protest.

Banks, Hospitals, and train stations were shut while the state was plunged into darkness as electricity workers joined the mass action.

El-Rufai declares NLC President, others wanted

The Governor of Kaduna state, Malam Nasir El-Rufai, has declared Comrade Ayuba Wabba, the National President of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and other members of the union wanted.

El-Rufai, in a tweet on Tuesday, declared they were wanted for economic sabotage and attacks on public infrastructure under Miscellaneous Offences Act.

Nigeria Immigration suspends issuance of new passports until June

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has announced the suspension of issuance of new passports and renewal of old ones across the country.

NIS Deputy Comptroller-General, AB Yarima, confirmed this in a statement.

Yarima said all new passports and renewals will be suspended until June 1, 2021.

"The directive is to enable the commission clear all backlogs of applications sequel to the commencement of new passport regime on 1st June 2021.

"Consequently upon the foregoing, all PCOs are therefore directed to utilise this period 17th May to 31st May to ensure that all backlogs are produced and handed over t comannad comptrollers for collection by members of the public," part of the statement read.
