Activist Joe Okei-Odumakin on Thursday honored her late husband, Yinka Odumakin, activist and spokesman of the Yoruba socio-cultural organisation Afenifere by joining in carrying his corpse.
Kemi Filani reports that the lying-in-state ceremony which was held for Odumakin at the Police College, Ikeja, Lagos, was attended by high-profile individuals including Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
Odumakin’s body will today April 23 depart Lagos for Moro, his country home, in Ife North Local Government Area of Osun State.
Yinka Odumakin, was a Nigerian human rights activist and politician. During the government of Sani Abacha, he met his wife Joe Okei-Odumakin at a detention facility in Alagbon, after she was transferred from Ilorin, Kwara State, Nigeria, due to her involvement in pro-democracy campaigns. They married on 4 November 1997.
Until his death, he was the national publicity secretary of Afenifere, a Pan-Yoruba socio-cultural group. Odumakin died on 3 April 2021 at Lagos State University Teaching Hospital from respiratory issues due to complications resulting from COVID-19.
