Nigeria Minister of Information, Lai Muhammed, said the federal government would not destroy the forest hideout of bandits to carry out kidnappings in the country.
While speaking to newsmen, Mohammed said the federal government can’t destroy the forests because it would affect the ecosystem.
He further explained that the best way to eliminate bandit from the forest was to create a working consultation between the sub-national government, federal government, and several security agencies.
The minister said: “We cannot destroy the forest because of climate change. The better approach is not to destroy the forest because it would affect the ecosystem, but we need a better consultation with sub-national government and security agencies on how to secure the forest to make them safe for everybody.
“Those forests are used as hideouts, but I think with technology today, and when all our platforms are delivered, it will no longer be business as usual as the forest will not save those criminals and bandits, but again we need collaborative effort; of everyone.”
Mohammed further insists that the security of Nigeria and Nigerians is of utmost priority to the Buhari-led administration.
