The Governor of Anambra State, Governor, Willie Obiano has directed that the Agbaedo Nnewi New Motor Spare Parts Market be shut for a week.
The Governor said this in a press release, which was signed by Mr. Uchenna Okafor, the state’s commissioner for trade and commerce.
According to the released statement, Obiano made the order for the closure of the popular market after it was reported to have disregarded the COVID-19 safety rules and protocols of the state.
The statement further contained that the officials of the markets present themselves before the state health commissioner, Dr. Vincent Okpala, to get retrained and recertified during the one-week closure.
A portion of the statement reads;
“Following the non-compliance to the COVID-19 safety protocols by the Agbaedo new motor spare parts market, Nnewi, His Excellency the executive governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano, has ordered for the closure of the market.”

Ananabra state has recently been reported to have an increase in positive cases of the novel coronavirus. Following this increase in the cases of COVID-19 in the state, Governor Obiano has ordered a nine hours curfew on the state, which is slated to begin on Monday.
The officials and members of the closed market are yet to react to this order from the Governor as of the time of filing this report.
