The Police in Lagos have arrested the man, identifies as Sunday Okodo, who allegedly knocked a police officer from the bridge while trying to resist arrest.
The Police spokesman, Olumiyiwa Adejobi, disclose this in a statement signed in Lagos on Thursday.
Adejobi revealed that 38-year-old, Okodo who resides at Bony crescent, Apapa, knocked down Inspector David Zapania why trying to escape after he was stopped for driving against traffic along International Airport road.
“Some LASTMA (Lagos State Transport Management Authority) personnel, backed up by the police on enforcement duty on Wednesday, contravened a Toyota SUV, driving against the traffic along International Airport road.
“The driver resisted arrest and, while trying to escape, knocked down a police inspector from the bridge who fell into a canal,” he said.
Adejobi further states that the police inspector was saved and rushed to the Lagos State Emergency and Trauma Center, where he was cared for and discharged, but he sustained fracture injury on his left hand.
The Lagos Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, sympathized with the policeman and insisted that he has zero tolerance for gross violation of traffic laws and regulations in the state.
