President Muhammadu Buhari has extended the tenure of Mohammed Adamu as the Inspector-General of Police for three months.
The Minister of Police Affairs, Mohammad Dingyadi, confirmed this on Thursday.
Dingyadi stated this while speaking with State House correspondents at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
He said the extension was necessary to give room for the proper selection of a successor.
Adamu completed his 35 years service on Monday.
He was expected to have handed over to the most senior officer. Since he has not there, there have been speculations he might be granted an extension of service.
Adamu was at the airport to welcome President Buhari who returned to Abuja after a four-day trip to his hometown Daura.
